He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, Titus 3:5 (ESV)

Brothers and sisters in Christ, during this past week there was an attempted break-in at St. John's. Someone smashed a window with a landscape brick. It does not appear that anything was taken or that there was any other damage; thank God for that.

But the Church will be defended. For it is God whom commands it.

“But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, Luke 6:27 (ESV)

And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Matthew 16:18 (ESV)

Such a paradox it is to attempt to steal from the church. It is not material items or money that is the treasure found within the walls; these are surely swept away as sand in the wind. Rather salvation, freely given by our Lord and Savior, is the riches that we seek. Any person coming to this holy house is welcome to enter. No brick is required.

Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. Ephesians 4:28 (ESV)
