One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. Psalm 145:4 (ESV)

And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. Luke 1:50 (ESV)

Last Saturday, when Gary and I were taking down the Nativity (in what was probably the warmest weather ever for this), Upwards Basketball was starting up right here in our gym. We talked about what a blessing this is for the Church. Every Saturday hundreds of youth and their parents will pass through our doors. Some may have a strong relationship with Christ...but what about the others? Some may be struggling with faith; others may not even know Jesus! As God provides this opportunity we need to Make it Count; we need to be Christian hosts for those that would come to our house.

Later in the day after getting the Nativity stored, we (I should say Pastor and Gary) worked on the electric in conjunction with the Church Organ project. Looking at the old gutted organ gave me pause to think of all those that have played and shared their talents with the Church; and of all the generations that have listened to the Christ-filled hymns in our sanctuary. I am so very grateful for those that have come before me at St. John's; that they have built this church up to be a beacon of light in the dark world.

Those two events, going on simultaneously at St. John's show God's blessings bestowed upon us. Even as we celebrate our wonderful history, we are provided with opportunities for our future. From generation to generation, the love of Jesus endures forever.

What a wonderful time to be part of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church!
